About Coastal Mountain Vanworks

Having spent the last 25 years building residential custom cabinetry, Hugh Montgomery realized the vanlife explosion could benefit from a better-built van cabinet. Hugh created Coastal Mountain Vanworks (CMV) to fill this void and help you complete your adventure van build. Whether you are building your own van or you are a professional in need of modular van cabinetry, we are here to help.

The Original Camper Van galley was designed out of necessity when Hugh started experimenting with using his cabinet company’s cargo van as a campervan. We tested several designs and prototypes of the Original Camper Van galley to make camping more comfortable. Versatility was key to ensure cabinets could be easily removed and re-installed when switching from work to camp mode. Our galleys and products are the result of what we feel make a great campervan.

CMV cabinetry is built with 8020 extruded aluminum as a framework, combined with bamboo ply and high-pressure laminates to build functional and attractive modular van cabinetry. The extruded aluminum frame adds strength and durability. We recognized early in our prototyping that screws and glue in plywood were not the best or safest options for the rugged environment of a moving adventure van. Aside from the strength gained from the aluminum framework, it also protects the inset bamboo and/or laminate panels from everyday bumps and dings when moving around in a small space
